Immigration and Student Visa Information

All international students studying with Laidlaw College are required to have a Student Visa issued by the New Zealand Immigration Service. To obtain a Student Visa you first need to apply and be accepted to study at Laidlaw College. Then you will need to pay your tuition fees, accommodation fees, and purchase medical insurance in advance in order for us to provide you with supporting documentation (Offer of Place letter) for your Student Visa application. Once you have the ‘Offer of Place’ letter you are free to apply to New Zealand Immigration for a Student Visa.

English Language Requirements

Since all tuition at Laidlaw College is given in English, applicants need to be proficient in understanding, reading, writing and speaking English. Therefore, applicants whose mother tongue is not English are required to take the IELTS test (academic version), an internationally recognised English language proficiency test for students planning to study in an English speaking tertiary institution. International Bachelor of Counselling Applicants:

It is a condition of enrolment that students submit a police clearance, the cost of which is the responsibility of the student. International applicants for the BCouns must provide a police clearance certificate from their country of citizenship AND for any country in which they have lived for more
than a 12 month period in the last 10 years. This police clearance should be less than 6 months old and be presented at the time of application.

International Bachelor of Teaching and WVS Applicants:

International applicants for the BTch & WVS must provide a police clearance certificate from their country of citizenship AND for any country in which they have lived for more than a 12 month period in the last 10 years. This police clearance should be less than 6 months old and be presented at the time of application. Any associated cost will be the responsibility of the applicant.

Fees

The tuition fees for 2012 for International Students have been set at NZ$15,600 per year or NZ$7,800 for one semester. Australian citizens are generally not classed as international students for fees purposes.

Please be aware that scholarship assistance is very limited in New Zealand and none is available at the moment so you would need to be able to meet all the travel, study, and accommodation costs if you were to come to New Zealand.

Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students

Laidlaw College has agreed to observe and be bound by the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students published by the Ministry of Education. Copies of the Code are available on request from this institution or from the New Zealand Ministry of Education website at:

Eligibility for Health Services

Most international students are not entitled to publicly funded health services while in New Zealand. If you receive medical treatment during your visit, you may be liable for the full costs of that treatment. Full details on entitlements to publicly funded health services are available through the Ministry of Health, and can be viewed on their website at www.moh.govt.nz.


Accident Insurance

The Accident Compensation Corporation provides accident insurance for all New Zealand citizens, residents and temporary visitors to New Zealand, but you may still be liable for all other medical and related costs. Further information can be viewed on the ACC website at www.acc.co.nz.


Medical and Travel Insurance

International students (including group students) must have appropriate and current medical and travel insurance while in New Zealand. Laidlaw College has made arrangements with Uni-Care for a Group Scheme to provide cover for overseas students. More information can be found at www.uni-care.org.
