Scholars gather to share knowledge

Around 70 scholars gathered in mid-August for a Colloquium on the Theological Interpretation of Scripture at Laidlaw College. This was the initiative of both Laidlaw-Carey Graduate School and The University of Otago and featured keynote addresses from Joel Green of Fuller Theological Seminary and Murray Rae from the University of Otago.
The papers presented ranged from biblical, theological, missiological, ecological and socio-linguistic perspectives, with researchers from throughout New Zealand and from Asbury and Fuller Theological Seminaries in the USA. The diet was varied and extremely palatable! The colloquium provided a platform for exploration of theoretical and practical methods of theological interpretation and also addressed what a ‘Christian’ methodology for theological study might be.
The value of this gathering was not only the knowledge gained, but the cross-fertilisation of disciplines and methodologies which will no doubt stimulate and support further study. A further benefit which should not be undervalued was the networking of scholars which may lead to collaboration on future projects.
Thank you to Laidlaw College for hosting such a great event!
