Maori Artwork Launch
18-Aug-2011
Friday 12 August saw the launch of three custom-made pieces of artwork by Maori artist Donna Hakiaha in the Twos & Threes café at the Auckland campus. It was a special and moving time as members of the Hakiaha family, College Runanga, National Governing Council, past faculty and current staff came together for the sharing of mihi, waiata, karakia, hongi, and kai – and to welcome and bless the art pieces.
The three art pieces, two of which stand at the right and left of the College entrance and one which greets you as you enter the Atrium from the outer courtyard, are beautifully composed and full of meaning. Artist Donna Hakiaha explained that the pieces reflect oneness in conversation, three images of women in Scripture, and support and guidance from God’s Word and Spirit. The launch event was a wonderful time of reconciliation, and a glorious example of what the cross is all about – people from all cultural groups joining together as one before God.
We invite you to come and view them at the Auckland campus.Artworks explained
