About Sarah Penwarden
Sarah initially trained as a secondary school teacher while working in England in the ‘90s (although hailing originally from Taranaki). She returned to New Zealand and gained a Master in Counselling at Waikato University in 2002. Since then, she has worked as a counsellor in three secondary schools in Auckland, working with young people from a variety of different social backgrounds and ethnicities. She also worked for three years at the Anglican Trust for Women & Children. Sarah is interested in using Narrative therapy creatively with young people, hearing alternative stories and paying attention to power in conversations. She has just begun her doctorate with Waikato University, focusing on bereavement, and the ongoing imprint of people on our lives after they’ve passed away. She is married to David Crawley.
